Nystatin General Information
Nystatin is categorized under a class of drug called: polyene antifungal drug. It is prescribed for treatment of sensitive molds, yeast infections like Candida. It is actually obtained from Streptomyces noursei. The active ingredients used in this medicine involve titanium dioxide, aluminum hydroxide conc. wet gel, propylene glycol, cetearyl alcohol & ceteareth-20, sorbitol solution, polyethylene glycol monostearate, glyceryl monostearate, white petrolatum, simethicone and sorbic acid. It is an anti-fungal drug and this medicine is available in many different formslike creams, ointments, tablets, powders, vaginal tablets and even oral suspension. As a result of its toxicity profile, there is no injectible formulation of this medicinal drug. However, nystatin might be given both orally and applied topically due to its negligible absorption by the mucocutaneous membranes. It is absolutely safe for oral use but should also be applied or taken under the strict recommendation of the doctor. It is medically tested to be safe and the products of nystatin are made by several manufacturers. This medicine can bind to the ergosterol and changes the fungal membrane to make it leakier.
