Nystatin Suspension General Information

Nystatin Suspension is an oral antifungal suspension used for treating infections of the throat, mouth and intestines caused by some fungi and yeasts. The molecular formula of Nystatin Suspension is C47H75NO17 and its molecular weight is 926.13. Nystatin is the active ingredient and magnesium aluminum silicate, cherry flavor, sucrose, edentate calcium disodium, methylparaben, propylparaben, D & C Yellow 10 and polysorbate 80 are the inactive ingredients present in Nystatin Suspension. It is available as a ready to use, cherry flavored suspension and has to be stored at a room temperature of 20 to 25°C in a light resistant, tightly closed container. For infants Nystatin Suspension of 2 ml has to be used four times daily. Adults and pediatric patients should use 4-6 ml of the suspension 4 times daily. It is better to retain this drug as long as possible inside the mouth before swallowing. Some of the possible side effects of Nystatin Suspension are diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, upset stomach or stomach irritation. Patients should check with their doctor if these side effects become persistent during the usage of this medicine.
