Nystatin/ Triamcinolone Cream General Information

Nystatin/Triamcinolone cream is basically a combination of antifungal and synthetic corticosteroid medication.

Nystatin is the antifungal agent in this medication. It is obtained from Streptomyces noursei and is a polyene antimycotic. Nystatin comes in a powder form and is yellow or light tan in color. The powder has a cereal-like odor and is slightly or sparingly soluble in alcohol.

Triamcinolone acetonide on the other hand is a white to crystalline powder. The cream has a soft and smooth texture. It is light yellow or buff in color. Each gram of medication consists of 100,000 USP of Nystatin units and 1 mg of Triamcinolone Acetonide. The ointment base is on mineral oil and white petrolatum.

The medication should not be used along with occlusive dressings. The cream is available in tubes of 15 gram, 30 gram and 60 gram. Contraindications with this medication are observed in patients who have a history of hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients of this medication.

The medication is mostly tolerated well by all the age groups. And this is also in case you use the medication for a long period of time. The medication must be stored in controlled room temperature with the temperature being around 15 to 30 degree Celsius.
